Help beat cancer for 3rd & hopefully last time!

*UPDATE 12/16/2024
Hi everyone it’s been a while! I still have been fighting the good fight but unfortunately things haven’t been progressing like I’d hope.

While we did see some results with radiation, Chemo has not been working as expected. The cancer has now metastasized to my lungs, which (mentioned below) was initially a secondary concern and while we’ve pivoted to other forms of treatment we’re not getting the results we’d ideally like. I’m still holding out hope though and we’re exploring all treatment options.

I recently lost a lot of my hair due to treatment, so I’m opening up my GoFundMe again in hopes that I’ll receive some help to buy a few wigs and scarves, as well as ease the on-going costs of treatment.

Anything you can contribute is helpful, sending good energy as well. Thank you all for helping me, and continuing to make this cancer journey a little easier.

Hi! My name is Sable. I’m just a self-proclaimed nerd, living on her own, dealing with one of the most life changing things I’ve experienced.

I’ve had cancer 3 times. The first time, I was around 16-17, and a tumor started to grow on my thyroid. I didn’t notice until it grew to the size of a golf ball protruding out of my neck. I had that mass removed, and everything came back clear so I thought it was over.

Fast forward to about 12 years later and the the mass returned. This time it was larger, occluding an artery, and displacing a few other things. This time I had a name for the type of cancer, S.E.T.T.LE. Again, I had surgery to remove it and then went to UCLA where they didn’t believe I needed radiation at the time. Again, I thought I was in the clear.

That didn’t last long. At the beginning of 2023, I went to see my oncologist for a check-up, and after getting some scans done I found out the tumor returned with vengeance. My tumor ended up being quite rare and a thymus-like, aggressive carcinoma; and Nevada, where I currently live, did not have the proper medical system that could support me. So I was sent to UCLA for further evaluation and treatment. The tumor had grown larger during this time, now displacing my trachea and esophagus causing difficulty breathing, and has also possibly metastasized to my lungs.

After months of tests, a plan of action has been made. I had to have a tracheostomy in order to help me breathe while receiving treatment, as any kind of swelling no matter how small, could cut off my airway. The trach has been difficult thing to deal with. Not only to have to maintain it, carry around a suction machine everywhere I go, but also because I love to sing and having no voice has been a bit of a blow to my spirit.

I’m now undergoing radiation and chemo in hopes that it will shrink the tumor and no further surgeries are needed. Once that is taken care of, we’ll move to address the nodes in my lungs.

This has been a long journey; a rollercoaster of emotions. My family has helped me a lot, they’re amazing, as well as my friends and kind people in general. Without them, I would most likely be in a darker place from having this return, having a trach, being limited on the things I want to do, eat, etc. I don’t know what will happen, but I’m trying to stay optimistic that everything will work out this time!

If you would like to help out, I would really appreciate it! Anything, no matter how small, I’m grateful for. This money will go to helping medical bills, as well as transportation & lodgings to UCLA, where I am receiving treatment, from Nevada.

Thank you for taking the time to hear my story.
