Bear is my handsome 4-year-old Pomeranian, weighing in at 10 pounds. He became part of my life a year ago, after his previous human mom passed away and his dad could no longer care for him. I had been Bear’s sitter for six months, and during that time, I fell in love with his sweet personality and gentle spirit. When his previous guardian asked me to become his new guardian, I couldn’t say no. I had lost my beloved Pomeranian, Sky, three years earlier and hadn’t planned to bring another dog into my life, but Bear needed a home and I knew I could give him the love and care he deserved.

Recently, Bear needed an ultrasound to locate a testicle that had not descended. The ultrasound, which I was able to cover, revealed not only the undescended testicle but also an enlarged prostate. The surgery Bear needs is complicated and will require a significant abdominal incision. It’s essential for his health—not only to prevent the risk of testicular cancer but also to resolve his prostate issue. The cost of the surgery is more than I can afford as a senior citizen living on a fixed income. I had no idea his neutering would be so complex, and I want to do everything I can to give Bear the best chance for a long, healthy life.
