Help Bean Fight her Brain Tumor with Love and Sparkles

This fall was supposed to be full of firsts for five-year-old Bean — her first day of kindergarten, her first soccer season, and lots of playtime with her big brother, Nuggs. Instead, her family’s world was turned upside down in August when a routine trip to visit family in San Francisco took an unexpected turn.

While they were at her great aunt's house, Bean’s mom noticed her little girl’s eye drifting upward. Out of an abundance of caution, Bean's parents took her to urgent care, where doctors quickly referred them to the emergency room. Both parents felt this could not possibly be serious but took her to get checked out as was suggested. After multiple MRIs, Bean’s parents received the devastating news that their bright, joyful daughter had a tumor in her brain stem.

What should have been a wonderful end to summer became a blur of hospital rooms, hard decisions, and heartbreak. The family returned home to Denver, where Bean underwent a craniotomy at Denver Children’s Hospital to biopsy the tumor. Results said the tumor was a "low-grade" astroblastoma, a rare tumor in an inoperable location. Now, instead of heading to kindergarten or running on the soccer field, Bean is bravely undergoing proton radiation treatment at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia — one of the few hospitals in the country equipped to treat a child her size with this advanced therapy.

This GoFundMe has been created to help Bean’s parents manage the growing costs of medical bills, travel for treatments and doctor appointments, and to provide a safety net should they need to take additional time off work to care for her in the coming months.
Bean is full of light and love — she adores sparkles, princesses, unicorns, and doing everything her big brother Nuggs does. Her newest favorite pastime is feeding the squirrels along the Lotus Walk on Penn Campus on her way back to the Ronald McDonald House after her treatment. Her courage, laughter, and gentle spirit continue to inspire everyone who meets her.

Please consider donating, sharing this page, and keeping Bean and her family in your thoughts and prayers. Every bit of support helps them focus on what truly matters — helping Bean heal and keeping her surrounded by love and hope.

Thank you for standing beside Bean and her family during this fight. ✨
