BBQ + Rice is a small Korean restaurant located in East Hollywood, run by my dad Matthew Kim. My dad is a first-generation Korean immigrant who moved to America from South Korea in 2005. After running operations for Baroo for a couple of years, my dad decided to open BBQ + Rice to offer conventional Korean rice bowls to residents of LA. My dad has worked tirelessly towards BBQ + Rice so my twin sister and I would not have to attend UC Berkeley with significant financial burden
. This place is important to many residents of East Hollywood and Los Angeles as a casual Korean restaurant that offers generous portions and great service. Despite struggling during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, BBQ + Rice has continued to stay open for customers to pick up or deliver their orders.
As some of you may know, BBQ + Rice on Santa Monica Blvd. was recently burglarized on September 30. On September 30, 2021 at 1:50AM, an unidentified individual broke into the restaurant, shattered the glass of the restaurant door, and stole all of the cash inside the cash register, amounting to over $7,000 in value. The individual also busted the steel bars in the front of the restaurant.
My dad opted out of filing for a police report as he would have had to close the restaurant for at least 2 to 3 days for the police to look for any promising evidence towards the case. The restaurant currently cannot afford to close for an extended period of time due to the financial strains related to the pandemic. The $7,000 in damages has been devastating for my dad and the business as a whole.
My dad and I would really appreciate any support towards replacing the glass door and recovering from this burglary. Thank you so much for reading.
