Help “BB” find safe and stable housing

Hello all,

I have been entrusted by a dear friend “BB” (not their real name for privacy and safety) to help raise funds so that they can leave an unhealthy living environment.

BB is a talented and uplifting visual artist and storyteller whose current living situation is harmful to their health. BB is a queer, disabled femme of color and it is our responsibility to ensure they have access to stable and safe housing. Sadly, one of BB’s housemates is verbally and physically abusive, sending BB to the hospital with an acute exacerbation of their chronic illness. When BB returned home they found another housemate was using BBs room, bed, and items while BB was hospitalized. The house is infested with rats and there are holes in the floorboards. For these reasons and more, BB needs to leave for their health, survival, safety, and basic human right to joy.

Our goal with this fundraiser is to secure the funds to end their lease: forfeit their deposit (first, last, and security) on this toxic, unhealthy living environment. Any additional funds raised will be used for the deposit (first, last, security) on a new home for BB, moving, and healthcare costs.

I know that we can reach into our wallets for BB because we understand they deserve better. If you are looking for an actionable way to make a direct impact on helping someone: consider this an amazing way to do so.

We can no longer rely on a fair capitalist solution to a human problem. I wish I could say that there were other ways a tenant could free themselves from a lease in a domestic dispute but sadly this is a condition many survivors of abuse encounter.

If you have never known the fear of not knowing where you will lay your head to rest that night, I sincerely hope that you recognize what a gift and blessing that is. Let’s share some of our security with those who are in need in our community.
