Help High School Athletes Reach Their Dreams
Donation protected
Hi, My name is Rachel Starr, I am a track and field and cross country coach in Palm Bay, Florida. I am fundraising on behalf of myself, and my 2 track and field athletes to cover the travel cost of Nike Outdoor Nationals in Eugene, Oregon from June 13th-15th.
Nickiah Wilkinson is a high school Junior who came to us from Alabama this year, he is a basketball player and an elite-level high jumper. At the first meet Nickiah competed in, he shattered our long-standing school record with an impressive 6 '8 jump. At the regional meet, he broke the Brevard County record with an unbelievable 7 '1 jump. Now, nearing the state meet, he is the most dominant high jumper in the county, and state, and is ranked second best in the country! Without a Jumping specific coach, his success is a testament to his stellar work ethic, phenomenal attitude, and unquestionable talent. It would be a privilege to take him to a national meet where he can be challenged, competing at the highest possible level, so that all of his hard work and talent can be recognized.
Jordana Nunez is a high school senior who came to me from Toronto just over 2 years ago, she is a high-level Tae Kwon Do athlete and an up-in-coming 800-meter superstar. Jordana came in with a 2:22 800-meter personal record. By the end of her Junior year, she worked that down to an impressive 2:17, breaking our previous school record of 2:23, and then went on to break school records in the 400 meter, 1600 meter, and 5000 meter! This track season she is making her mark in the middle distance scene, with her season opener being a 2:18, to now going into the state meet, running an unbelievable 2:09, dipping under the previous county record of 2:10, securing the 3rd best 800 meter in the state! Jordana's drive to win is unmatched, and as her coach, it is a privilege to work with someone who not only is undoubtedly talented but also has the work ethic to supplement the talent.
Both of these kids have the potential to win the state meet, taking them to a meet where they are surrounded by kids who are also competing on the level they are would push them to further greatness. This trip would be extremely beneficial in terms of getting these 2 recognized in the post-high school space, as both of them are easily talented enough to compete for Division 1 schools after graduation, and even have the potential to go the professional route.
I have never had kids competing at such a high level before. Traveling across the country to a meet like this is all new territory for us as a program, but especially for me as a 21-year-old coach, also competing as a track and field athlete in college. Financially, it would be hard for me to pay my way, as our school is unable to cover the expenses for any of us.
All money donated would go towards:
- Meet entry
- Hotel rooms for Nickiah, Jordana, and Myself
- Transportation (plane tickets, rental car)
- Meals for the 2 kids
- If there ends up being money leftover, it will go towards covering the kids entry fees for future meets!
Thank you so much!
