On June 4th, our eldest cat, Baylee (our 9 year old tabby) suddenly lost the ability to move her hind legs and most movement/feeling in her tail. None of us were in the room with her when this happen, and as the rehabilitation specialist put it, "Little Ms. Baylee is keeping her secrets."

Joe brought her to the Lewiston emergency vet clinic (1 hr 10 mins from us), who gave her pain meds and then referred him to MVMC in Scarborough (an additional 50 mins).

Baylee stayed the night at MVMC and had an MRI the morning of June 5th. It was concluded that she had suffered a contusion to her lumbar vertebra and there is some herniated disc material. She has no infection or lesion. Both neurologists and the rehabilitation specialist believe she will make a full recovery, but it will take time.

Baylee did not need surgery, but will still need 6 weeks cage rest and then a slow rehabilitation time to regain muscle strength. We've rearranged what space we have in our room to give her the space needed to convalesce.

Once Baylee begins peeing on her own - the final box we're waiting for her to check - then we can travel to Scarborough and bring our girl home.

This is a huge hit for us financially. The currently bill is already over $7,000 and will increase each night she stays at MVMC. After care will include a few followup appointments at her normal vet's office and additional acupuncture, if we can fine a certified vet for this closer to home. Thus this GoFundMe being set with a wishful amount of $10,000.

Anything that we do not use to cover her medical bills will be donated to a local animal shelter to help clear a portion of some other poor cat or dog's bill.
