She Gave Me Everything — Help Me Fund My Mother’s Funeral

Hi Everyone,

My name is Saira. I am the second eldest daughter of Bartola Mingueta—a loving daughter, sister, wife, woman, mother of six, and grandmother to five.

I’m currently a full-time student at Columbia University, living a dream made possible by the lifelong sacrifices, resilience, and unconditional love of my mother and father. My mother carried our family with strength and grace for as long as she could—but now, it’s our turn to carry her memory forward.

In early January, we received a letter telling us that my mother was breast cancer-free. Just two weeks later, we were blindsided with devastating news: she had been diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer (stage 4). Her health declined rapidly, and despite our efforts to pursue alternative treatments and navigate a broken healthcare system, my mother passed surrounded by love.

We are now raising funds to cover the costs of her funeral and memorial service—an opportunity to honor her life, her love, and everything she gave to those around her. We want to say goodbye in a way that reflects the warmth, care, and beauty she brought into the world.

Mi nombre es Saira. Soy la segunda hija mayor de Bartola Mingueta—una hija, hermana, esposa, mujer, madre de seis hijos y abuela de cinco nietos, llena de amor.

Actualmente soy estudiante de tiempo completo en la Universidad de Columbia, viviendo un sueño hecho posible gracias a los sacrificios, la resiliencia y el amor incondicional de mis padres. Mi madre sostuvo a nuestra familia con fuerza y gracia durante toda su vida—y ahora, nos toca a nosotros sostener su recuerdo.

A principios de enero, recibimos una carta que nos decía que mi madre estaba libre de cáncer de mama. Apenas dos semanas después, nos llegó una noticia devastadora: le habían diagnosticado cáncer de mama metastásico (etapa 4). Su salud se deterioró rápidamente, y a pesar de nuestros esfuerzos por buscar tratamientos alternativos y enfrentar un sistema de salud roto, mi madre falleció rodeada de amor.

Ahora estamos recaudando fondos para cubrir los gastos de su funeral y servicio conmemorativo—una oportunidad para honrar su vida, su amor y todo lo que nos dio. Queremos despedirnos de una manera que refleje el cuidado, la calidez y la belleza que trajo al mundo.
