Help Barry's Family Through ALS Battle
Donation protected
Hello everyone! My wife Tamara and I started this GoFundme to help our good friends through a very difficult time. Barry was diagnosed with ALS and it has progressed very rapid and aggressively. ALS is a TERMINAL DISEASE with no cure. Barry is a hard working guy that takes great care of his wife and two kids. This diagnosis has impacted his whole life along with his family. His wife is struggling to work and take care of him while he is home bound. The cost of his medication alone is hard on them due to not being able to continue his career as a Radiologic Technologist at Flowers Hospital in Alabama. We have known this wonderful family for over 20 years and they could truly use a blessing of relief
This is his story
"Hi, my name is Barry McCord, I was diagnosed with ALS in December of 2023. I'm married to my soulmate and best friend Crystal for 23 years. We have 2 daughters, Emma 15 and Lilly 19. Emma is homeschooling and Lilly is attending online college for computer science. Crystal works from home to help take care of me and door dashes for extra money. Lilly works part time to help with bills also. Emma homeschools so she can spend more time with me. Since my diagnosis, my breathing and chewing abilities have quickly declined, leading me to be on a non invasive ventilator that I had a 600 copay for and am soon to have feeding tube placed while in the hospital. I'm waiting for the actual copays from the business office."
"I have to take several medications off label for the constant drooling, around 100 dollars a month. A not well known symptom of ALS is labile, which is inappropriate laughter and crying. My neurologist prescribed a medication called neudexta but it has no generic. I can't use the coupons from the manufacturer because I have Medicare. The copay would have been 600 dollars a month. My neurologist then prescribed a compounded version but my local pharmacy wouldn't do it because it's name brand. So he sent it to a pharmacy in New Jersey. They couldn't ship to Alabama so my wife had to rent a post office box 40 minutes away in Florida so they could ship it. I have to pay total cost for the compound medicine at 90 dollars a month. With all these new hardships and the cost of groceries and everything else, life is very hard, and with my declining health, makes things worse. Any help would be appreciated. God bless.
