Help Barry the Bison Get the Surgery He Needs!

Meet Barry, our 6-month-old American bison who’s full of life but facing a tough challenge. Barry was born with leg deformities that have made it difficult for him to walk and run like a normal bison. He’s strong, he’s determined, and he has a big heart – but he needs surgery to correct his legs and give him the best chance at a healthy, happy life. Barry resides on the Mortenson Ranch with Clint Mortenson in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

The surgery and ongoing veterinary care are expensive, and we need your help to cover the costs. The total bill is estimated to be $8,000 including after-care and every dollar counts. Without this surgery, Barry could face long-term pain and mobility issues that will prevent him from living his life to the fullest.

Barry’s journey has just begun, and with your support, we can help him take the first steps toward a brighter future. Here’s how you can help:
1. Donate: Any amount makes a huge difference. No donation is too small!
2. Share: Spread the word! The more people who know about Barry’s story, the closer we get to reaching our goal.
3. Prayers and Positive Vibes: Barry could use all the love and encouragement you can send his way!

Your support means the world to Barry and to us. Together, we can help give this sweet, brave bison the chance to run, roam, and enjoy a full, pain-free life.

Donate now and help Barry get the surgery he desperately needs. Thank you for caring!

A little backstory on Barry the Baby Bison and how he came to be in Clint Mortenson's life! As many know, Clint is the owner of Clyde the Buffalo, the 7 year old American Bison adopted by Clint as an orphan and hand raised at Clint's ranch in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Clyde quickly formed a bond with Clint as soon as he arrived at the ranch and could often be found hanging out in Clint's saddle shop or following him into his house. Clyde quickly became a local celebrity and has had a very successful career in the movie and entertainment industry. He's appeared in the TV series Yellowstone, the western mystery series Open Range, and posed in ads for Banana Republic and can often be found in the pages of fashion magazines. So when Barry the Bison was born after a very rough start, the owner quickly reached out to Clint to see if there was a possibility of saving him and giving him a shot at life. "Back in June, I got a call from a friend who told me about a newborn Buffalo the mother would not accept" explained Clint. "He was born in Mormon Lake, Arizona. I drove the next morning to pick him up and try to save him. When I arrived I was surprised how crippled all four legs were. I put him in a dog crate and drove him 400 miles back home. We have been bottlefeeding him and fortunately had another calf that the mother did not accept so he has a friend. I had Berkley (an incredible veterinarian) x-ray him with the help of her two daughters and some of the bones were not developed in his hocks and ligaments growing at different paces in his front legs, making them very crooked. We’ve been doing a little physical therapy, stretching his joints. He’s doing much better. We will x-ray him again this week and hopefully some bone has developed so he will be able to support his weight as he gets older. He’s getting around much better and definitely happy! ❤️"
