On February 11, 2025, our world changed when my dad, Barry Martinez, was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. What started as acute stomach and back pain turned into one of the worst diagnoses that we could have gotten. Subsequent scans confirmed its spread to his upper abdomen, adrenal glands, diaphragm, and celiac axis. It's been a whirlwind few weeks scrambling to research, make the best decisions we can, and get the best possible care for my dad.

If you know my dad you know that he’s one of the toughest men alive, but this disease has taken a toll on him and our family. We’re committed to doing everything possible to give him the best chance to continue being the incredible person he is to so many and are maintaining a good attitude moving forward.

At 68, my dad means everything to our family and has been a rock for so many people. He’s an amazing father, a loving husband, a loyal friend, and someone who’s always been there to guide and support others without judgement. Anyone who knows him will tell you how strong, selfless, and kind he is. He’s made a difference in so many lives, and now, it’s our turn to be there for him.

He is currently receiving treatment from an incredible team of doctors at Hoag in Newport Beach. Our oncologist is a researcher and very open minded to work with us on all the latest information for treating pancreatic cancer. In addition to chemotherapy, we are also pursuing additional treatments to give him the best chance possible. As you can imagine, medical costs, along with the expenses of supplementary treatments, are adding up quickly.
