On October 11, 2023, my life changed forever. I was rushed to the ER and placed in an induced coma for 11 days to fight severe brain swelling and infection caused by meningitis. When I woke up, I was permanently deaf and had to undergo a craniotomy to repair two holes in my skull leaking cerebrospinal fluid into my left ear. I received a cochlear implant, but after surgery, I developed blood clots that required further hospitalization. Despite doctors’ hopes, I never recovered from the dizziness and balance issues. The meningitis ossified my hearing and balance organs beyond repair, leaving me with a permanent vestibular disorder. Now, I must use a walker because I am permanently imbalanced and cannot walk without holding onto something. I also experience constant dizziness, which affects my ability to work and even sit up straight for long periods without becoming fatigued and nauseous. Physical and occupational therapy did not help, and I had a venous stent placed in my head to prevent intracranial pressure that could cause another CSF leak. Because I am sedentary, I have developed lymphedema and cellulitis. I also suffered a severe corneal infection after accidentally touching my eye with Icy Hot while wearing a contact lens, requiring specialized eye drops and adding to my medical expenses. While visiting my cardiologist, I was in a wheelchair and accidentally slammed my car door into my leg, causing a laceration that bled uncontrollably. I was rushed to the emergency room, placed in the trauma unit, and required a tourniquet and blood transfusion. The open wound needed a visiting nurse three times a week for four months, plus wound care doctors, which greatly increased my medical bills and copays. I have also developed serious gynecological and urological issues, including a seven-week period that required another blood transfusion. Ultimately, I have faced huge, unplanned medical expenses and have depleted all my savings. I am extremely grateful for any support and will be forever appreciative for your help.
