Help Barbara Make Her Home Accessible

My name is Barbara Miller, and I’ve called my house home for 28 years. It’s more than just a place to live—it’s my sanctuary and the place I hope to stay for the rest of my life. Over the years, I’ve always tried to help others, whether through my work in mental health for 28 years or by running the Barbara Miller I Had a Friend Youth Center for 21 years. Unfortunately, my health has forced me to retire and close the youth center, and now I find myself needing help.
I live with chronic pain from a bad back and have had three spinal stimulation systems implanted to manage it. Both of my feet suffer from deteriorating bone disease, and I’m facing another surgery on my left foot at Middlesex Hospital in July. Everyday tasks have become a struggle. My old, low bathtub is impossible for me to use safely, and my windows and front door are in desperate need of replacement. I do my best to keep my home clean, but pain often limits what I can do. I start each day with prayer and tackle one room at a time, but I know I can’t make these critical home updates on my own.
I’m reaching out for help to make my home accessible and safe—a new front door, new windows, and a handicap-accessible bathroom. I’ve always been there for others, and now I’m hoping there are people out there who can be there for me. Any support will help me stay in my home and maintain my independence as I continue to face these health challenges.
