My name is Barbara Jersey. I am fundraising for my friend Barbara Loyer. That is us in the picture, I am the one with the dark hair. This was several years ago at Festival of Trees at the Turner-Dodge House in Lansing, Michigan where she is the event manager. Barbara has done some awesome things in her life, giving back to the community, but now she needs help.

Her home flooded last week in the Lansing area and she is currently living in a hotel with her partner Joel and one of her cats. The other cat is still living unhappily at the condo. The condo is not habitable and won’t be for several months. Since this is the second flood there since 2015, the plan is to move away permanently. As it currently stands, neither insurance or the condo association is paying for temporary housing or for the loss of furniture and other households essentials. Barbara is a survivor of auto-immune disease, cancer and has also lived through brain surgery! She has always persevered but after all she’s been through, I’d like to ask your help to lighten her load.

Her immediate needs are to pay for temporary housing at the hotel while she finds another place to live, have enough money to pay a deposit and first months rent & then will need a couch, mattress /boxspring & other household items that were lost in the flood. And there’s the expenses of moving and getting the condo ready to sell.

Initially we are shooting for $1,000, but I am sure she will need more. Staying in a hotel does nothing but deplete the bank account when she wants to save something for her next move. She is going to be missing a lot of work dealing with all the issues that need to be resolved, so any help would be much appreciated.

Also let us know if you are aware of a housing situation that may be available in the Okemos, Haslett, or East Lansing, Michigan area. Housing is very scarce right now so we appreciate everyone keeping an eye out for an affordable place that is cat friendly.
