At 9 years old my family bought this house in 1962. My family consisted of Dad, Larry, my Mom, Jane, my older sister, Sharon and my older brother, Bill.
I lived here with my parents until September, 7th, 1974, when I married my high school sweetheart, Alan W. Becker. Alan and I lived in a few places over 14 years, until my parents decided to retire to Florida in 1988. That is when Alan and I bought the house from my parents and moved back into my family home. For 62 years, this house has been in my family. I have called it home for 48 of those 62 years. I was raised here, and then had the opportunity to live here with the love of my life, Alan.
Alan and I have had our share of health issues over the years, and we got a golden retriever named Ellie to help Alan with some of the anxiety that led to a lot of his health issues. Ellie helped keep Alan calm and helped a lot the last few years, sadly Alan passed away a little over a year ago, Sunday June 11th, 2023, just a few weeks after his 69th birthday. Now my only connections to Alan are our home, and our golden Ellie.
For 62 years this home has been in my family, for 48 years I have lived in this home, and for 35 years I was fortunate to share it with my Alan. I would love to remain here, with all my cherished memories of my life here, with my family and the love of my life Alan. I want to stay here with my dog Ellie. This is home, this is where my heart is, where all my memories are.
The reason I am here asking for donations to help save my family home and one of my last connections to my late husband Alan is this. There was a flood in my basement and the insurance company denied my claim. In that flood, my furnace, electrical box, my water were all destroyed, as well as laundry and personal belongings that were in the basement.
The house and space has become unliveable, especially with my health, so most days and nights are spent in the garage and car with my dog Ellie. A restoration company was hired to clean out the nearly 6.5 feet of water in the basement. They never finished the job, leaving nearly 18 inches of flood water standing in the basement for 3 months, causing a lot of mold to grow in the basement.
There is no running water due to a broken pipe that burst, when the flood got so deep it reached the electrical box and blew it up, as well as destroyed my furnace among other things. An adjusted was sent out, and the valuation came out to roughly $100,000 for repairs and restoration, and there was also a court ruling that leaves me with just 2 months to come up with the money, or else I will be evicted from my family home of 62 years, and the home my beloved Alan and I lived in for 35 years together.
If you can find it in your heart to help donate, to help keep me in my home, with the memories of my family and the love of my life Alan, I would be forever grateful. If you are unable to donate, would you be so kind as to share my story so someone else may see it, and if it touches their heart, they may be willing to donate. I would be eternally grateful, and your generosity would be appreciated immensely.
Thank you for listening to my story.
