Barbara and I grew up together and met when we were 4 years old. We both joined the swim team in our home town of Elk Grove Village, IL.
We attended the same jr high and high school. We lost touch during college. In 1988, we found out we both were living in Southern California and have enjoyed a friendship ever since.
Barbara is a kind and loyal friend to us all. Over the years, she has continued to give her time as a volunteer, donated blood to the American Red Cross, and participated in various 5k charity walks.
Recently however, she was diagnosed with cancer - metastatic ovarian Stage 3. She was in surgery for 6 1/2 hours and in the hospital 17 days due to various medical setbacks. She had a full hysterectomy. Carcinoma was also found on her omentum which was removed. In addition, the surgeons removed her spleen, appendix, and scraped her diaphragm and liver. The surgeons found cancer cells attached to those organs and are confident they got all they could see.
I’m starting a GoFundme page for Barbara. She has a long recovery ahead of her and the earliest she can return to work is Feb 2019.
With the help of her Mom, Trish, brother John and her 4 year old German Shepherd Sabrina, she is recuperating at her apartment. That said, she has had setbacks even since returning home two weeks ago. It is a slow and steady road best taken one day at a time.
She needs our love, support and prayers. She has many dear friends who have been helping during this difficult time. The medical bills and lack of income has been very overwhelming. If you would like to join me and make a contribution to help with her care, Thank you. Michael Keegan
