Bandit's life hasn't been easy and it's not getting any easier. A little backstory first...
I found Bandit in 2019 downtown Grand Rapids. He was tied to a pole on a hot summer day and a sign said "Free Dog." Of course, I said, "You're coming home with me." He was covered in dirt and fleas and was pretty skinny. But instantly, he made us fall in love with him. He is the biggest baby and such a goofball. I was in an apartment at the time and figured a big dog wouldn't do well, so I asked my parents to watch him while I figured things out. Long story short, my mom fell in love with him and they decided to take him for good.
Jump to 2020... We noticed Bandit wasn't feeling well. His gums were swollen and red, and he wasn't drinking. We rushed him to the vet. He had a high fever, and his body was shutting down and not making red blood cells. He was in the vet for 3 days, and everyone thought he wasn't going to make it. Miraculously, he pulled through and was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease, manageable with steroids. He was living his best life with Emma, my parents' Golden Retriever. Until a week ago...
Bandit was rushed to the vet with a distended abdomen and fever. He urgently got an ultrasound, X-rays, and bloodwork, and they diagnosed him with some sort of spleen cancer. He had emergency surgery to remove the spleen. They took biopsies, and it turns out he has lymphoma. Since his surgery, he has been in and out of the vet due to some complications. Chemotherapy is not an option for Bandit, so he is now going to live out the rest of his life comfortably with my parents and Emma. It may be a couple of weeks to a couple of months, but he is going to be the most loved pup. With all these medical bills, it's been very hard on my parents, with each hospital stay reaching up to $1,000 per day plus the surgery cost. Please consider donating to help the financial hardship my parents are going through. Thank you so much.
