On February 25th, Balto, a blind male Husky, found his way to my porch. My dog started barking, and when I went outside, there he was — skin and bones, completely blind, searching for my voice. He just wanted comfort. I rushed him to VCA, where Dr. Fisher confirmed he was severely dehydrated and only 37 lbs. He was hospitalized for fluids and bloodwork. Thankfully, his organs are healthy — he just needs nourishment and love. Balto had no microchip to help find his owners, so I made flyers and posted them around the whole neighborhood and at my vet, but no one has come forward. Because Balto is blind and my dog isn’t comfortable with other dogs, I couldn’t keep him at home. With help from my mom and sister, we’ve been caring for him in an AC garage while searching for a rescue or foster.
What makes Balto so special is his gentle, loving nature. He loves sleeping by your feet and, when we walk outside, he listens for us and tries to find us. Even without sight, he’s a fighter and finds joy in simply being around people. He hasn’t barked once — not at dogs or cats — and truly is a gentle soul who just wants to belong.
I have already covered a significant amount of Balto's medical care, but he still needs neutering, dental work, vaccinations, and a specialist evaluation to see if anything can be done for his eyesight. Rescues are full, and his chances of adoption are lower because he’s blind — but Balto deserves a chance. If you’re able to help us reach our fundraiser amount to cover his remaining care, we would be so grateful. Even sharing this means the world. If you or someone you know can foster or offer Balto a loving home, please contact me. Thank you for helping this sweet boy.
