On 12/15, a little after 3:30 am, we found our cat, Bakugo, laying in the middle of the second-floor hallway, barely able to breathe. We could visibly see him struggling to breathe as he was taking short, shallow, raspy breaths. We called our local emergency vet and were able to get him seen right away.

It was a good thing we did, as once he was admitted, the vet advised us that he was showing signs of HCM (Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy), which is a heart condition where the walls of a cat's heart become thick or enlarged. This can lead to CHF (Congestive Heart Failure) and/or ATE (arterial thromboembolism), both of which are fatal for cats.

After several tests and a prolonged stay at the emergency vet's ICU, it was confirmed to be HCM, and if we hadn't gotten him seen when we did, Bakugo would have most likely not made it through the night. Sadly this does also mean that Bakugo's life expectancy has been shorted with a maximum two to three years. We made the decision to give him the best care the emergency vet could provide to ensure he would be healthy enough to come home, but this has led to us gathering more debt than we can handle as the vet bill could reach up to $5,000.

We do not ask this lightly and would appreciate any and all support or donations to help make sure Bakugo can be taken care of and given the necessary medicine and care to live the best life he can. Donations will go to his current vet bill, future vet bills, and his cremation service when the unfortunate time comes.
