Bako came to the United States from Mali 15 years ago with a dream of pursuing a career in medicine. He didn't know that at the young age of 35 he would become a patient after being diagnosed with stomach cancer. In 2018 Bako underwent surgery in Grand Rapids to remove his stomach and chemotherapy to treat his cancer. Bako took this diagnosis in stride and got back to working as soon as he could, even while he underwent chemotherapy. He is hard working, often working at two different jobs while also completing his degree.
This winter Bako started to notice abdominal pain, which brought him back into the hospital where he was found to have a mass in his liver and he was taken down to Spectrum in Grand Rapids. He's had two long stays in the hospital, even requiring an extensive surgery to remove his gallbladder.
Bako has had a long road and has had to be off work during this time as he works to get his strength back and proceed forward with the palliative treatment for his cancer. Anyone who meets Bako finds his smile infectious and his warm and friendly personality makes you feel like you have known him for years.
Please consider donating to Bako's fund to help him fight this cancer. Funds will be used for treatment, hospital costs, and transportation so Bako doesn't have to worry and can put all of his energy into feeling better!
*****Bako has been part of the Pangea's Pizza team for over 10 years, working with both the Mohrhardt family (2016 to present) and the Girrbach family (until they sold in 2016). We're coming together to help raise funds and offer (1) free Artisan Pangea's Pizza and (1) free "party size" bag of Great Lakes Potato Chips (owned by the Girrbach family) for any donations over $100 ( a value of $30+). We'll message you after you donate with info for this. *****
