Help Bako and His Mom with a Health Emergency

This fundraiser is for my wonderful husband, Bako, and his beloved mother, Nande, who lives in Conakry, Guinea, West Africa. She has just been told she will need to have her foot amputated in the next week. A toenail infection, paired with complications from diabetes, have made this tragic situation irreversible. Bako's normal financial responsibilities of supporting his very large immediate and extended family in Africa are now greatly compounded by this health emergency. We are concerned not only for Nande's health right now, but for her recovery, and the long term impacts this change will have on her body and her whole life as an amputee.
 
Nande is so important to Bako. His way of being a loving and devoted husband and father are directly informed by his deep respect and endless love for his mother. She is the busy and active matriarch of their large family compound; cooking for at least 15 people, taking care of a multitude of young children, and hosting and attending social events. Her life will be profoundly altered by this event and everyone is devastated and feeling very overwhelmed.

Nothing about Guinea is handicap accessible. She has no health insurance. There are extremely limited resources and poor health care. The only way to get a semblance of quality care is with money, all provided by Bako. So every penny of this fundraiser will go to Nande's immediate and continued medical expenses for as long as is needed.
