Help Bad Bishop Reopen!

Hey Friends,

In August of 2018, we took over a pub in Pioneer Square with the dream of building a special place in the neighborhood. Immediately we began remodeling the space ourselves alongside some wonderful friends, bringing to life a space that had long been neglected. Our goal was fairly simple: to offer quality food and drink, good music, and to be a neighborhood bar in the heart of downtown.

Upon opening, we started with just burgers and beers. Some chuckled at our ‘Pre-Soft Opening Menu’, and rightly so. We decided to start small and simply listen to what the neighborhood wanted, and grow from there. With over 1,500 hours of work between the two of us and hundreds of hours from our friends, our first official day of business was October 24th, with a full menu, newly installed wallpaper, and every album we owned.

For the first couple of months, it was just the two of us, working every single day. As we grew, and with the continued help of our friends, we were able to bring on new employees and thus manage a burgeoning business. While we had faith in our mission, we did not expect to receive such an overwhelmingly positive response to what we created; from regulars buying us records from our ‘Christmas Wish List’, to a write-up mentioned on the front page of the Times, we felt incredibly loved by our community. By summer, we were firing on all cylinders, settling into our identity, and preparing for our one year anniversary. Then, at the end of August, we received a call that there was massive flooding in the building due to a water pipe bursting on the third floor. Originally, it seemed as if minimal repairs needed to be made. Upon further inspection, not only were there significant damages, but much of the 130 year old space needed to be brought up to code.

Now, over a year later, we are nearing the completion of repairs. While insurance has helped us stay on top of our monthly recurring payments and kept us fed in the interim, that assistance stops there.

And that is why we come to you.

As you are aware, these are incredibly difficult times for the restaurant industry as a whole. Not only is seating capacity limited, but also the majority of the workforce that frequents the Pioneer Square neighborhood is staying at home, and will be for the foreseeable future.

We are asking for $35,000 to assist us in two ways: to make some capital improvements in order to aid a pivot in our offering, and to have some working capital to help us get through the next few months.

With $15,000, we plan to:

     - Purchase a new Point of Sale system that allows for online ordering and                        contactless payments
     - Invest in targeted neighborhood marketing and research
     - Purchase our inventory for the remainder of the year

With the remainder we will:

     - Stay on top of our monthly recurring expenses
     - Be able to pay ourselves
     - Use as a buffer to weather continued difficult months until we reach a                            resolution with the pandemic

To even have the opportunity to open up our own business is something we will always be grateful for. As we continue to navigate these uncertain times, our only hope is to continue to serve the community that we hold dear. If you are unable to donate, there are still ways you can help. Whether it is sharing our story, or a favorite of yours, or simply just reaching out to say hello, anything is greatly appreciated.

We are humbled by all of the support we’ve received from day one and look forward to spinning our favorite records and serving you once again.

Thank you,

Jesse & Keaton
