Help Kiley save Babz!
Hi, my name’s Lacey. I have a beautiful daughter Kiley - and a fur granddaughter named Babz. She’s one year old and part marsupial as you can see.. also the best cat and a precious member to our family, and best friend to my 10 year old daughter.
On 7-11-21 Babz wasn’t herself, she threw up well into the night and by the morning of 7-12-21 I had scheduled an appointment for her to be seen by our Vet. After X-rays they discovered she had an obstruction in her small bowel that requires surgery, as grandma to this precious baby I decided to go ahead with surgery and was referred across town with a rough estimate of $1200 to $2400 dollars.
Once I got there they once again examined her, confirmed the other diagnosis and gave me an estimate of $4635-$6302. Asking for us to immediately make the down payment to get into surgery, which was $4635. Unfortunately I don’t have that - in between our tears the doctor asked me how much I was “thinking” I answered honestly around $2400...he said I have two options that I can get her comfortable with fluid and anti nausea medication while I find a surgeon within my budget but she only has 24 to 48 hours. Or I can “relinquish my rights and one of his Staff will pay for surgery but she would no longer be our cat”.
All of this said in front of her mom, my 10 year old daughter, her best friend. My daughter took off screaming and crying through the parking lot. By the time I reached her she was in the arms of my wife who was comforting her, she looked at me and said “mama if it means Babz will live you can give my cat to them, she deserves to live”.
But see, it’s more than that, I work at the hospital and during the pandemic my daughter was mostly alone facilitating her own education while I worked. Babz is her partner in crime, and best friend. I haven’t given up. I’m asking for whatever help I can get to keep Babz with her family because honestly I can’t imagine otherwise.
