On February 8th my sister Candice called me with shattering news, her 10 month old baby Tee was diagnosed with cancer.

Candice (mom) and Tyrone (dad) noticed that something was not quite right with baby Tee. They took her to the doctors multiple times in January 2024 only to be suggested and provided treatment for childhood respiratory infections- common. Even with antibiotics baby Tee still wasn’t getting better. Candice and Tyrone kept advocating something was wrong, especially when Baby Tee was already trying to walk by 9 months, but now, one month later, noticed not trying to move much at all with her legs anymore. They took baby Tee to children’s ER once more, and could have never predicted the news: Baby Tee has cancer.

Baby Tee and her mom and dad were immediately admitted to the hospital for further examination and testing. Initial findings showed a mass the size of a pool ball located on her adrenal gland- A Neuroblastoma. Unfortunately, a few days later blood results revealed Baby Tee also has Acute Megakaryoblastic Leukemia (AMKL). Baby Tee was diagnosed with two different, very rare, and aggressive forms of childhood cancer. Baby Tee’s battle just got harder.

Candice is a medical assistant

who has since had to take leave as Baby Tee has needed to remain hospitalized during her treatment due to its aggression and rarity. Tyrone is able to spent most of the time in the hospital, however he has to leave the hospital for work and to care for their two older children. Thankfully, our family can pull together to help and lend hands to care for Baby Tee’s big brother and sister during this unpredictable time.

Baby Tee has been hospitalized for over a month, has had 4 blood transfusions, surgery, two spinal taps, on-going chemotherapy, and will need a bone marrow transplant- and today, March 20th had to celebrate her 1st Birthday in the hospital.
