Hi, my name is Monica, I’m Nana to Sutton. I’m starting this GoFundMe for my son, Dylan, his wife Kate and their 2 babies- Sutton (4 months old) and Everlee (who turned 5 on Jan 21, today). They face every parent’s worst nightmare, watching their 4 month old baby prepare for major heart surgery.
Today. January 21, the doctors performed a 4D echocardiogram, X-rays, and lab work. After reviewing everything, the heart surgeon explained that they will be repairing both a VSD (ventricular septal defect) and ASD (atrial septal defect) with grafts. While the doctors are hopeful, they were honest in saying they don’t yet know if the grafts will hold. If they don’t, Sutton would need to be taken back into surgery.
They also explained that he will most likely be on blood thinners for the rest of his life. His AV canal is very small and will need to be replaced in the future. That could be in 6 months, 2 years, or even several years, they simply won’t know until this surgery happens. Surgery is scheduled Friday, January 23.
Because of his heart condition, he will not be able to play sports or have hard physical contact as he grows. He is also at risk for serious complications, including stroke or brain bleed, which is terrifying for any parent to hear about their baby.
While our family’s only focus right now is on Sutton, the reality is that medical bills, travel, missed work, and everyday expenses don’t stop. My son is currently the only one able to work, while his wife, Kate, takes Sutton to all his Dr appts, stays by Sutton’s side in the hospital, and takes care of a 5 year old energetic little girl. The financial stress is heavy on top of the emotional toll.
Any donation, share, or prayer would mean more than we can ever express. If you’re unable to give, please consider sharing and keeping our sweet boy in your prayers. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for supporting our family during this incredibly difficult time.
