Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers,
We are reaching out with heavy hearts but also a hopeful spirit, as our sweet 7-month-old Roman has recently been diagnosed with Unicoronal Craniosynostosis—a condition in which one of the sutures in the skull fuses too early, restricting the normal growth of the skull and affecting the shape of the forehead and eye sockets. Please Click Read More for more information.
After numerous doctor appointments, consultations, and a CT scan, it has been determined that Roman will need to undergo a Frontal Orbital Advancement Reconstruction surgery in order to correct the abnormal skull growth and alleviate the pressure on his brain. This surgery will prevent any future developmental or vision issues that could arise from the condition, reshape Roman's skull, improve facial symmetry. This condition needs operating as soon as possible as this condition will only get worse in time. This is a 4-5 hour surgery, ear to ear incision, a blood transfusion, a week ICU stay, drainage tubes, and immense swelling (eyes will be swollen shut for aprox. one week).
The Challenge Ahead:
While we are incredibly heartbroken that our baby boy has to go through surgery, we are also grateful to have a treatment plan in place to ensure that he will be as healthy as possible in the years to come. The journey ahead will be long and costly. The surgery, hospital stay, and follow-up appointments will involve significant medical expenses, some of which are not fully covered by insurance. On top of this, the recovery process will require time off work, as well as special care and equipment for Roman as he heals. Our Neurosurgeon and Plastic Surgeon have informed us full recovery time will take around one month, with residual swelling that could last longer.
How You Can Help:
We are asking for your support during this challenging time. Your contributions will help cover costs towards his surgery and other associated costs to ensure that Roman receives the care he needs to thrive. No donation is too small, and every contribution will make a difference.
Additionally, we please ask for your prayers, well-wishes, and positive thoughts as we navigate this scary next chapter in our lives. The emotional support we've received so far has been overwhelming, and we are incredibly grateful for all of you.
If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing this page with others who may be willing to help. Every share brings us one step closer to giving Roman a healthy and happy life. This also takes great stress off of our family to be able to support most on what matters, having Roman healthy.
As of right now, we have an (estimated) end goal of $15,000. This will help cover deductible costs plus the costs of what insurance doesn’t cover and time missed from work for Roman’s hospital stay and his recovery after he gets released. We may adjust the goal depending on new information that comes in as we get closer to his surgery date.
Thank you for your love, support, and kindness.
With heartfelt gratitude,
Hayley, Cristian, and baby Roman
