Hello friends. The Wassel family is a pinnacle of love, devotion and selflessness and their gift of adoption, and the greatest gift of life, has been overshadowed by the financial mountain they are suddenly responsible for. Sometimes the most incredible people aren’t met with the same caliber of support. Baby Rico and his incredible new family deserve the resources to thrive.
Andy is a former captain in the Army and now teaches social studies at a local high school. His wife of 12 years, Sam, is a stay at home mom who was the valedictorian in both high school and college. She runs marathons and is a freelance writer. They have precious eight year old twin boys, Trystan and Oliver, and adopted adorable baby Harvey Lew in 2016.
They made the decision a couple years ago to go through the exhausting and expensive journey to bring another baby into their home. It was a mutually beneficial decision that would not only welcome another member into their family, but also provide a loving home to a baby that would otherwise end up in the foster system.
So they prepared their nursery and waited. And waited. They finally got the life changing call that their baby boy was being born in Arizona! They paused everything and all got on a plane to go get him.
Their dreams came true when they met the darling angel that they’ve named Rico. Staying by his side, they’ve gone through the emotional roller coasters of the highest high of holding their new baby to the deepest fears as he faces some stability issues that are requiring him to have a prolonged stay in the NICU. The fact is that their home is in Indiana. They are paying for a home away from home, travel and living expenses for the entire family, and now they’re being faced with the financial burden of his hospital stay. This is where they’ve agreed to let us help them.
Our community should rally around families like the Wassels and help shower them in gifts for this baby as he becomes a Hoosier full of potential. He will do great things with their love and guidance. They’ve never asked for help, and instead are the ones always giving to those in need. Let’s help them come out the other side of this obstacle, and let’s help baby Rico and his family have a happily forever after.
