Hi everyone, my name is Eliza Hunsicker and my boyfriend Teddy and I are starting this GoFundMe for our son Nicholas.

I never wanted to ever make one of these, but I feel like it’s time to. My son was born on January 25, 2025, at 32 weeks and 6 days. On top of him being premature, he also has a condition called VACTERL. VACTERL is a combination of congenital abnormalities and it stands for Vertebral, Anal, Cardiac, Tracheal, Esophageal, Renal, and Limb. Nicholas has a tethered cord, an imperforate anus, tracheal/esophageal fistula (TEF/EA), as well as duodenal atresia (which is now corrected), and a connection between his urinary and GI tracts. He has already had 4 surgeries in his two months of life and will likely need several more.

As you can imagine, his medical bills are very high and they continue to increase due to his constant care in the NICU at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. I also have the bills of having to two appointments each week down at CHOP, as well as the bills for his birth. We have had bad luck with getting him insured through the state of Pennsylvania, but I am working towards getting that for him every single day. Once he does get insurance, we have no idea if there will be anything owed yet, but I would love to be able to pay off some of this debt from his birth and some of his stay sooner than later due to the struggle we’ve had getting him insured. He has never been home, and we have absolutely no idea when he will be able to come home, but we want to focus less on the medical bills and more on building our connection with him, but it is near impossible to not worry about the finances.
