This little fighter’s name is Michael Kenneth Collins III, born on September 28th, 2025, weighing just 4 lbs 3.7 oz. From his very first breath, Michael has been fighting for his life in the NICU, connected to life-support machines that help him grow stronger each day. Despite his size and fragile condition, Michael’s spirit is fierce — he’s a true fighter, just like the rest of his family.
Michael was born with an extremely rare form of a genetic mutation called Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) — a condition that causes bones to be very brittle and prone to breaking. Before his birth, doctors told my sister that he likely wouldn’t survive. But against all odds, Michael continues to prove them wrong.
What makes Michael’s case so unique is that his specific form of OI is so rare it doesn’t fit into any of the known types. Even medical experts have barely seen a case like his. This means his journey will be lifelong, filled with challenges, treatments, and therapies — but also hope.
After a month in the NICU, Michael now weighs 5 lbs 4.5 oz — still tiny and fragile, but growing stronger every day. His next step is a transfer to the University of Michigan Hospital, where he’ll begin specialized bone therapy and other treatments to support his growth and development.
My sister stays by Michael’s side as much as possible, while also caring for her 5-year-old daughter, Harmony, at home. Michael’s father works full-time, doing everything he can to keep up with bills and support his family. Between hospital trips, childcare, and everyday expenses, their resources are stretched to the limit. Hospital-assisted living isn’t an option right now, as my sister needs to return home to care for Harmony as well.
This is where we’re asking for your help. ❤️
Whether it’s a donation, a grocery store gift card, or even sharing this story, any support means the world to this family. Every bit helps them stay strong for baby Michael as he continues his incredible fight.
Thank you for taking the time to read Michael’s story and for keeping this little warrior and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
