Help Baby Maverick & His Mama Keep Fighting
A tiny warrior. A strong mama. A long road ahead.
Baby Maverick was born on December 1st, 2023, and from the very beginning, his life has been filled with battles most people can’t imagine. During pregnancy, doctors discovered several rare and serious conditions, and his mother, Ashley, was monitored closely throughout. When Maverick entered the world, it was clear: he was a fighter.
He was diagnosed with:
• Mesocardia (heart positioned in the center of the chest)
• Pulmonary hypoplasia (underdeveloped lungs)
• Intrahepatic gallbladder
• Macrocephaly
• Left bronchus stenosis (narrowing of a major airway)
• Adenoid hypertrophy
• Congenital heart disease
• Alpha thalassemia (a blood disorder)
After spending 20 days in the NICU, Maverick came home—but he’s been back to the hospital 10 times since then.
At just 8 months old, Maverick was life-flighted to Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland after developing severe lung complications from COVID-19. Since then, his already fragile lungs have continued to struggle. During a recent bronchoscopy, Maverick began having difficulty breathing and had to be intubated. He has now been on a ventilator for over a month and is currently supported by ECMO, a life support machine that keeps his heart and lungs functioning while his body fights to heal.
His battle doesn’t stop when he leaves the hospital. His left lung has not grown at all, and his right lung is also affected by pulmonary hypoplasia, leaving both lungs compromised and making breathing a daily struggle. This condition will require constant care, monitoring, and likely more hospital stays and interventions as he grows.
Through all of this, Ashley has been Maverick’s one and only constant. She is a single mother, and Maverick’s father is not involved. From day one, it has been Ashley by his side—day and night, hospital to hospital, appointment to appointment. Because of Maverick’s fragile immune system and high risk of infection, Ashley has not been able to return to work and cannot safely place him in daycare.
Now, she’s facing the possibility of needing to relocate to Portland to be closer to his medical care. The emotional, physical, and financial toll is overwhelming.
We are asking for your help. Every donation—no matter how big or small—will go toward:
• Medical expenses
• Transportation to and from Portland
• Temporary housing near the hospital
• Basic living expenses for Ashley
• Preparing for a possible relocation
• And everything this brave little boy needs to keep fighting
Ashley is giving everything she has to care for her son. What she needs now is a village—people to stand with her in love, in prayer, in support.
Even if you can’t donate, please share this story. Keep Maverick in your thoughts. Lift Ashley up with hope.
Thank you for helping this little warrior and his incredible mama.
Thank you!
