Help baby Madison and her Mama
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Desiree and I'm wanting to help a very special mom and her 4 month old daughter, Madison. I met Hannah last August, she works at the nail salon where I get my nails done. I was there one day and overheard her say, "oh the baby is moving." I asked her how far along she was and she said, "I think 6 months." The other woman doing my nails told me that Hannah hadn't been to the doctor yet. I was shocked and asked why. She informed me that she didn't have medical insurance. I went back the next day before the salon opened and her and I got her and her baby medical coverage. She was able to find a female doctor who speaks Vietnamese, and her beautiful baby girl was born in December. Hannah is from Vietnam and came here legally, has worked fulltime since she arrived, pays taxes and has applied for US citizenship. Unfortunately, she makes only enough money to rent a room in a house and pay her car payment. With the help of my friends, family, coworkers and a few strangers, we were able to get Hannah all the necessary baby items.
I'm so heartbroken to share the recent news, Madison has been diagnosed with Pompe Disease. Pompe disease is a rare genetic condition that affects infants, causing a buildup of complex sugars in the body's tissues. This buildup makes it difficult for children with the disease to function normally. Symptoms begin in the first months of life, with: Feeding problems, Poor weight gain, Muscle weakness, Hypotonia, and Enlarged liver.
Pompe disease is caused by a mutation in a gene that helps make an enzyme called acid alpha-glucosidase (GAA). When the enzyme is not made properly, glycogen builds up in the body's cells, stopping the cells from working as they should.
Pompe disease can be infantile-onset, meaning symptoms begin in the first few months after birth, or late-onset, meaning symptoms appear later in childhood. If left untreated, infantile Pompe disease typically results in death by 1 year of age.
Hannah and baby Madison are in the best hands of Seattle Children's hospital. However, the outcome for this disease is not good. I'm hoping to help raise money for a few reasons. One, so Hannah can stay home with Madison to have every second with her beautiful daughter. Two, so Hannah can fly home to Vietnam so her family can meet Madison and love on their very sad daughter, sister, granddaughter, cousin. Hannah needs her family right now and they can't afford to come here. I would love to help these two! If you're able to help any amount, big or small is amazing!
