ACTUALIZACIÓN SOBRE LUCA EN ESPAÑOL MÁS ABAJO

UPDATE: Dear friends and supporters,

Over the last few days, Luca has made some important progress. He was successfully taken off the ventilator and transitioned to CPAP, which he tolerated well for a couple of days. After that, he was switched to high-flow nasal cannula, which he also tolerated, and then finally to standard nasal cannula without high flow, an encouraging step in his recovery.

However, yesterday (Aug. 13) we received news from his medical team that one side of Luca’s diaphragm is elevated. This means he will need another surgery, which is scheduled to take place today (Aug. 14).

We are incredibly grateful for all of the support, love, and generosity you have shown us so far. We kindly ask that you continue to help by sharing Luca’s story, and for those who are able, any donation, no matter the amount, makes a difference.

Queridos amigos y seguidores,

En los últimos días, Luca ha tenido avances importantes. Le retiraron el ventilador mecánico y le colocaron un CPAP, el cual toleró bien durante un par de días. Luego le colocaron puntas nasales de alto flujo, que también toleró, y finalmente pasó a puntas nasales estándar sin alto flujo, lo cual es un paso alentador en su recuperación.

Sin embargo, ayer (13 de agosto) el equipo médico nos informó que encontraron que uno de los lados del diafragma de Luca está elevado. Esto significa que va a necesitar otra cirugía, la cual está programada para realizarse hoy(14 de agosto).

Estamos inmensamente agradecidos por todo el apoyo, amor y generosidad que nos han mostrado hasta ahora. Les pedimos de corazón que sigan compartiendo la historia de Luca, y a quienes puedan, cualquier donación, por pequeña que sea, hace una gran diferencia.

On July 16, 2025, our sweet baby boy, Luca, entered the world and changed our lives forever. Only a few hours after he was born, doctors noticed his oxygen levels were dangerously low. He was immediately admitted to the NICU, where they tried several treatments to help him breathe — from oxygen therapy to CPAP — but nothing seemed to work.

After further testing, we received the news no parent ever expects: Luca was born with a congenital heart defect that could only be corrected through surgery. He was transferred to a larger hospital with specialized pediatric care, where he underwent heart surgery.

While the surgery was successful, Luca’s recovery has been far from easy. He continues to face challenges with his lungs and requires ongoing monitoring and medications. Every day, he shows us his incredible strength, and we are holding onto hope as he slowly makes his way toward healing.

As you can imagine, the medical costs are overwhelming. Between the NICU stay, surgery, medications, and the ongoing care he needs, expenses are far beyond what our insurance will cover. We are reaching out for help during this difficult time — any donation, no matter the size, will go directly toward Luca’s care and give him the best chance at a healthy future.

Ayuda al bebé Luca en su camino hacia la recuperación

El 16 de julio de 2025, nuestro dulce bebé Luca llegó al mundo y cambió nuestras vidas para siempre. Solo unas horas después de haber nacido, los médicos notaron que sus niveles de oxígeno eran peligrosamente bajos. Fue admitido de inmediato en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos Neonatales (UCIN), donde intentaron varios tratamientos para ayudarlo a respirar —desde oxigenoterapia hasta CPAP—, pero nada parecía funcionar.

Tras realizarle más estudios, recibimos la noticia que ningún padre espera: Luca nació con un defecto cardíaco congénito que solo podía corregirse mediante una cirugía. Fue trasladado a un hospital más grande con atención pediátrica especializada, donde se sometió a una cirugía de corazón.

Aunque la cirugía fue un éxito, la recuperación de Luca no ha sido nada fácil. Sigue enfrentando complicaciones con sus pulmones y requiere monitoreo constante y medicamentos. Cada día nos demuestra su increíble fortaleza, y nos aferramos a la esperanza mientras avanza poco a poco en su proceso de sanación.

Como se pueden imaginar, los gastos médicos son abrumadores. Entre la estancia en la UCIN, la cirugía, los medicamentos y la atención continua que necesita, los costos superan por mucho lo que cubre nuestro seguro. En este momento tan difícil, recurrimos a ustedes en busca de ayuda — cualquier donativo, sin importar su tamaño, irá directamente destinado al cuidado de Luca y le dará la mejor oportunidad de tener un futuro saludable.
