I am Liberty’s aunt (Charlie’s sister), Michaela. I created this go fund me to help ease the financial burden on Charlie and Lydia so they can focus on Liberty.
On October 3rd, 15-month-old Liberty was rushed to the hospital after her parents, Charlie and Lydia, noticed she wasn’t acting like herself and had become jaundiced. She was quickly transferred from Salisbury to Wilmington for specialized care.
Over the next few days, Liberty’s liver numbers did not improve despite treatment. On October 7th, doctors performed a liver biopsy, placed an NG tube, and placed a line for dialysis. The biopsy confirmed acute liver failure caused by severe necrosis, meaning many of her liver cells are damaged or no longer functioning.
Liberty has now started Plex, a special form of dialysis that filters toxins from her blood and temporarily takes over some of her liver’s functions. The next few days are critical — if her liver doesn’t begin to recover, the only option will be a liver transplant.
Charlie and Lydia are staying at the hospital with Liberty, along with their newborn baby, who was born on September 26th. They are doing their best to be by Liberty’s side while caring for their newborn, Lucy, and supporting their four other children at home, Micah, Maddox, Lylah, and Leeanna.
This fundraiser will help ease the enormous financial burden they’re facing — including travel expenses, missed work, lodging near the hospital, and ongoing care costs — as they focus entirely on Liberty’s recovery.
Please consider donating or sharing to support this incredible family through an unimaginably difficult time. Every contribution and prayer means the world to them.
