Help Baby Lennon Get Her Cranial Surgery

Hi, my name is Amelia and I’m fundraising for a surgery for this precious baby, Lennon. She was diagnosed with Sagittal Craniosynostosis when she was about 3 months old. She has a ridge on the top of her head where the sutures prematurely closed. This causes the head to grow long and narrow and will eventually create pressure inside the brain.

Her mom and dad, Nicole and Pete Vasquez, are dear friends of ours. As a teacher, Nicole has touched countless lives by sharing music, her warm smile and loving spirit. I would really love to help them now, but I can’t do it alone.

After going through their options with a couple of different surgeons, they decided the Cranial Vault Remodeling (CVR) was going to be the best option for Lennon. This surgery is performed through an incision that is made from ear to ear across the top of the head. The surgeon, along with a neurosurgeon, would remove the areas of the skull that are affected by the fused suture and then rebuild the skull into a normal shape.

Lennon would then spend one night in the PICU and then one night in a normal room - and if everything goes well would get to go home after that.

They’ll have bills from the neurosurgeon, anesthesiologist, hospital, and the surgeon. In addition, insurance won’t cover her PROCRIT injections (which she needs before surgery to reduce the risk of a blood transfusion). All told, they will have an estimated $14,000 out-of-pocket to pay. Nicole has enough days saved up to take off for Lennon’s surgery and recovery, but Pete will have to take a week of unpaid days.

They are not sure how they will pay for this but know that is absolutely essential for Lennon. They did not ask me to create this GoFundMe campaign but they are so very grateful for anything you feel led to give.
