Hi, thank you for even clicking on our story and thinking about helping!
Our baby Landon has had breathing issues since birth. He spent the first week of his life in the NICU at Oshei Children's Hospital in Buffalo, NY due to meconium aspiration. This was essential to ensure his survival early on.
For the past year, he has been in and out of hospitals and doctor's offices in order to help him breath properly. He would receive breathing treatments and steroids to allow him to simply breathe. The doctors often diagnosed him with croup, but it kept coming back which indicated something else was wrong.
Landon's new pediatrician finally took the issue seriously and made a referral to a pulmonologist, who decided to conduct a bronchoscopy which revealed that 75% of his airway is restricted due to a narrowing of the trachea. This disorder is called Subglottic Stenosis and results in labored breathing and constant coughing. It is unclear if this is a acquired (caused from the needed breathing tubes in the NICU) or congenital (he was born with it), and while we may not find out, this situation is still life threatening. The blockage will continue to worsen as time goes on and it needs to be corrected.
Having a sick baby is not easy; but it's even more difficult when the medical bills continue to pile up. Our insurance only covers part of the procedures and emergency room visits. We have spent thousands of dollars already, and his prognosis is showing additional procedures will need to be done in order to determine the underlying condition causing the breathing restriction and to permanently correct the narrowing of his airways.
Landon was recently (5/3/21) diagnosed with pneumonia. Whenever he has a viral infection or illness, it causes his airways to inflame even further which results in labored breathing and wheezing which is a result of have Subglottic Stenosis. So treatments are needed sooner rather than later. Not only is this a life threatening disorder, the longer he has it, the higher chance it will effect his ability to breathe and continue developing essential skills such a speaking and walking. The doctor has already confirmed that this is the reason he has not been able to walk at 16 months of age.
It's never easy to ask for help, especially during these strange times, but we would appreciate anything you are able to contribute. All funds will explicitly be going to Landon's medical bills, and we will be updating everyone on his progress every step of the way. We thank you for your time, prayers and support.
