Our world changed in an instant when our beautiful baby boy, Kai, was born. Instead of bringing him home, we are spending our days and nights beside him in the CICU at Seattle Children’s Hospital, watching our newborn fight battles no baby should ever have to face. Kai was born with a severe form of congenital heart disease—a single ventricle—meaning his tiny heart has only one chamber doing the work of two. On top of that, he was also born with a cleft lip and palate, making even the simplest things like feeding incredibly difficult.

Right now, Kai is surrounded by machines, wires, and constant monitoring. The sound of beeping monitors has replaced the quiet moments we dreamed of having with our newborn. Instead of sleepless nights at home, we sit awake in the hospital, praying, hoping, and holding his tiny hand as he fights with everything he has. He will need multiple open-heart surgeries just to survive, along with additional surgeries to repair his cleft lip and palate. His journey will be long, uncertain, and filled with challenges—but if there’s one thing we know, it’s that Kai is already so strong.

As parents, nothing prepares you for this. The emotional pain of seeing your baby in critical condition is unimaginable, and the financial burden of ongoing medical care, time away from work, and travel adds another layer of stress during an already heartbreaking time. We are asking for help so we can focus on what matters most—being here with Kai, supporting him through every surgery, every setback, and every small victory.
