At just 10 months old, our sweet Jayse is facing something no child should ever have to endure.

What began as what seemed like a simple virus quickly escalated into a serious medical crisis. The infection progressed from a sinus infection into a severe bacterial infection and has now spread to the bone in his cheek. Doctors have told us this is a rare and aggressive bacteria—especially in a child so young—and they are consulting with specialists and hospitals across the country to determine the best course of treatment.

Jayse has now been in the hospital for 12 days, and we are taking things one day at a time.

He recently had a PICC line placed, which will help make ongoing treatments more manageable. While we are thankful for that progress, he is still going through so much. He continues to experience facial swelling, significant mouth pain, and other complications as his body fights this infection.

Right now, Jayse is being treated aggressively with:

Multiple antibiotics

An antifungal medication

Steroids

Additional supportive treatments

Doctors have prepared us for the possibility of a hospital stay lasting up to four weeks. We are praying that he improves enough to safely transition home sooner, but even then, his care will be extensive. If discharged, Jayse will require in-home nursing support to manage his PICC line and continue treatment.

In addition to medical care, we are also working to prepare a clean, sanitized space at home to safely support his recovery. This comes with unexpected costs during an already overwhelming time.
