JADIEL- RETINOBLASTOMA

Hi, my name is Betza, Diana's aunt, and I am assisting Diana and Victor with a fundraiser during this difficult time.

 

As many of you already know, baby Jadiel Encarnacion, born on January 19th, 2021, was diagnosed with Retinoblastoma on February 18th, 2022, at just one-year-old. Today on Feb 25th, after his procedure at Bascom palmer eye institute, the doctors realized that his cancer was a little more complicated. What we thought would be chemotherapy sessions to kill the tumor, they discovered that the seed is connected to one of the primary eye nerves that leads to the brain, which could cause more problems and spreading of the cancer. On Monday, Feb 28th, they will be conducting an MRI to confirm if what they discovered is correct. If so, doctors advised that to prevent spreading to the brain and other areas, the best option would be for J.J to undergo surgery to remove his right eye. It's not something we wanted to hear or do; however, with the removal of the eye, J.J has a 95% chance of beating cancer versus just doing chemotherapy at a 50/50% chance. After surgery, Jadiel will still have to do between 4-6 chemotherapy sessions once a month.

 

Mom (Diana) and Dad (Victor) had to put work on hold to travel back and forth from Jacksonville, Florida, to Miami, Florida, where J.J will receive all his treatments at Bascom palmer eye institute. They are unsure how long the process will take. But one thing we know is that baby J.J and his family, mom, dad, brother Joel (2) need our support now more than ever so they can focus their strength and energy on each other.
