On October 9th, 2025, Melissa's water broke at just 23 weeks, and we rushed her to the hospital. She was admitted to UT hospital and remained under constant care until she went into labor. Iliana was born on November 14th, 2025, at 28 weeks and 5 days, weighing only 3 lbs. Her early arrival was both terrifying and miraculous, and from the start, she showed incredible strength. She needed a ventilator for only a few days and began improving day by day. We experienced many ups and downs, but as of April 20th, we were hopeful that Iliana would be able to come home soon.

However, on April 24th, her oxygen levels began to drop due to a possible infection or pulmonary hypertension. Despite the best efforts of the amazing nurses and doctors at UTMC, her condition became critical. We were advised to transfer her to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital for specialized care. Weather conditions made a helicopter transfer impossible, so an ambulance was sent instead. The three-hour ride was agonizing, but with the grace of God, Iliana arrived safely. She endured a lot of trauma and required sedation and medication, but as of April 27th, our little fighter is doing well. We are deeply grateful for the care she has received and for the prayers and support from everyone around us.

Melissa has not been able to work since her water broke and has stayed by Iliana's side every step of the way. Carlos is the only one working and must travel back and forth between home and the hospital, which is both exhausting and expensive. The funds raised will help cover medical bills, travel, and living expenses so the family can focus on Iliana's recovery. Any little bit would help make this journey a little easier, so they can get baby Iliana healthy and home where she belongs.
