Help Baby Hudson’s Family Through Medical Crisis
Donation protected
Healthy children, a safe place to call home, keeping the lights on, and water running. All these things we’ve all taken for granted but they are all very real problems this sweet family is facing in this scary chapter of their lives. Your donations will help pay Hudson’s medical bills, save this family from eviction, provide funds for basic utilities, and depending how far we can get may also help Sammie get an inexpensive, safe, used car to get her to and from drs appointments for Hudson, and hopefully soon, to and from a permanent place of employment so she can regain her sense of independence and regain her ability to care for her family without living in the shadow of fear and the unknown. Sammie is a good mom, a good parent like you and me, she’s just been handed an extremely hard time in life, made more complicated at every turn. And speaking as someone who benefitted from the actions and kindness of others when my own single mom had a rough patch, I know Sammie is exactly the type of person who will pay it forward as soon as she is standing on solid ground.
Hi, my name is Sarah, I’m a mom-friend who was blessed when I met Sammie at school and our lives seemed bound to intertwine. Our boys are friends, we’ve been pregnant together, and we always seemed to cross paths at just the right moment. I care deeply for this little family so I’m raising funds for baby Hudson, his 10 year old big brother Wiley, and his now, single mom, Sammantha.
Baby Hudson was born at 33 weeks weighing 4.11oz. He was immediately placed on a ventilator in the NICU for 35 days.
Since then Baby Hudson has been diagnosed with neutropenia. Which is an abnormally low count of a type of white blood cell (neutrophils). This increases his vulnerability to infection. Because his body can’t fight infections he is susceptible to serious illness. His mama takes him to do blood work every week for the next 2 months to check numbers and if they don’t come up he may have to have his bone marrow tested.
He has had stays being admitted to Tarzanna Hospital when he began to periodically and inexplicably stop breathing and has been diagnosed as having BRUEs which is Brief Resolved (but) Unexplained Events. Hudson has also had an 11 day extended stay at Los Angeles Children’s Hospital and was diagnosed with Bradycardia, a heart issue causing unusually slow heart rate, Neutropenia, and central and obstructive apnea. Hudson has a procedure coming up and has drs appts at least once a week. On July 9th they will do a procedure to investigate what is causing his obstructive apnea, if they find the obstruction they will perform surgery.
Hudson is now 5 months old, as of June 19th, and his medical bills are rapidly adding up. Because of the constant care Hudson needs Sammantha has been struggling to make ends meet. Her family helps as much as they can but are not financially able to give any meaningful amount of assistance. As of now Sammantha, her 10 year old son Wiley, and Baby Hudson are facing imminent eviction and extreme financial struggles. The money raised by this go fund me will go to pay the family’s rent, medical bills, and monthly expenses, as Samantha builds a stable foundation for their immediate future.
Sammantha has fought long and hard to keep her little family afloat amid all these medical emergencies and other personal family hardships. She is able and willing to work but has struggled to find opportunities and offers of employment. Unfortunately, Hudson’s father and Wiley’s supposed soon-to-be stepdad abruptly decided to leave the family relationship and home a short time before Hudson was born.
I asked for her permission to reach out in a larger fashion by way of GoFundMe to see if we could get the help they so desperately need.
This little family are not only friends of ours, but also, to me, represent any number of single mother families where hardship strikes swiftly and unmercifully. In my eyes, Sam could be any one of us women who have sick children and are in a position of being dependent on our partner for financial support. And their family story is a reminder how quickly life can fall apart. Security can end unceremoniously, health can fail and life can become very scary very quickly. She’s an incredible, good, loving, and dedicated mom, and she is actively seeking employment for long term financial security. Her story is one that offers those around her the opportunity to use their own blessings, large or modest in size, to lift up another in a time of real need. An opportunity to remind others that there is still love, and care and consideration for humanity in our communities. There is so much sadness and hardship in this world but this is an opportunity to make a meaningful and immediate difference in the lives of a very real family.
Thank you for your consideration and support. Truly, every little bit helps.
With love and gratitude,
Sarah
