I’m the mother of a little miracle, Hayden, who was born at just 23 weeks and 6 days — a tiny fighter who entered the world far too soon. Since birth, he has been in the NICU at UCI Medical Center, bravely battling one challenge after another.

Shortly after he was born, Hayden was diagnosed with Grade IV brain injury, the most severe level. Doctors have told us that this may affect his ability to move, communicate, eat, and even his cognitive development in the future. In addition, he has a PDA (Patent Ductus Arteriosus) heart condition that hasn’t improved after three rounds of medication and will now require surgery.

Hayden is now just four weeks old, and every single day is a fight for him — a fight for breath, for strength, for life itself. As parents, we stay by his side, holding onto hope and praying for each small victory. We know there will be many more medical hurdles ahead for our tiny warrior.

Looking ahead, Hayden will need long-term medical treatments, physical and occupational therapies, and special daily care to help him grow and develop. I will become his full-time caregiver — dedicating myself to his recovery and the demanding schedule of medical appointments and rehabilitation sessions.
