Help Baby Hashim Get the Medical Care He Desperately Needs

Dear friends and community,

My name is Saifullah, and I’m writing to you with a heavy heart to ask for your help. My wife, Mahaira, and I have been blessed with a beautiful baby boy, Hashim, born on the 29th of September. What should have been the happiest time of our lives quickly turned into a nightmare.

For the first two days, Hashim was perfectly healthy, just like any other newborn. But on the third day, he suddenly stopped feeding and became unresponsive. Alarmed, we called an ambulance, but the crew reassured us that Hashim was fine, only checking his heart rate and oxygen levels before leaving. Unfortunately, the next morning, his condition worsened drastically. We had to call another ambulance, and this time, Hashim was rushed to the hospital.

By then, it was too late. His blood sugar levels were undetectable, causing brain injury, seizures, and damage to his kidneys. He’s currently being treated at the Royal Children’s Hospital, where we’ve been told he may need to stay for weeks, possibly months.

This entire situation could have been prevented if Hashim had received care when we first asked for help. As parents, it’s devastating to know that our little boy is suffering due to missed opportunities to save him earlier.

As international students, Mahaira and I don’t have Medicare coverage. We are facing overwhelming medical bills that are beyond anything we can handle on our own. Adding Hashim to our health insurance is costing $23,790, and the hospital bills have already reached $95,000. This bill is expected to reach $200,000 as Hashim may need some more weeks of care until he is discharged. Unfortunately the children's hospital is not one of the 'partner' hospitals with my health insurance. So they have advised me to expect significant out of pocket expenses. These bills are still climbing, and we’re unsure of what the future holds for Hashim’s health, which may require even more treatment down the line.

I’m reaching out to you today to ask for your kindness and generosity to help us raise $100,000 to cover Hashim’s medical care and give him the fighting chance he deserves. No parent should have to worry about whether they can afford life-saving treatment for their child. Your donations will go towards Hashim’s insurance, hospital bills, and any additional out-of-pocket expenses that may arise during this difficult time.

Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said, "You see the believers as regards their being merciful among themselves and showing love among themselves and being kind, resembling one body, so that, if any part of the body is not well then the whole body shares the sleeplessness (insomnia) and fever with it."
