Baby Freya’s Journey

Our sweet baby Freya wasn’t due until June 4th, but our world turned upside down when we went in for a routine ultrasound at 26 weeks. The moment the technician began, she noticed something alarming—there was no amniotic fluid around our baby at all.

Mom was rushed to a specialist two hours away, where we received heartbreaking news: Freya had stopped growing around 20 weeks and needed to be delivered immediately. In that moment, we were terrified. Given her tiny size and lack of development, we truly feared she wouldn’t make it.

As if that wasn’t overwhelming enough, complications arose during delivery. Mom’s placenta and uterus were fused together, requiring an emergency hysterectomy to save her life. Despite everything, our little warrior entered the world weighing just 372 grams—less than a pound. Miraculously, the doctors were able to place a breathing tube and IVs, giving her a fighting chance.

We now face a long and difficult journey ahead. Freya will remain in the NICU, two hours away from home, for the foreseeable future. Every day, we’ll be traveling back and forth, balancing life at home while being by her side as much as possible.
