Fig Newton is my 6-month-old kitten, and he’s the sweetest little soul. He’s the kind of cat who follows you from room to room, chirps when he wants attention, and curls up beside you whenever he can. He also has a best friend—my 5-year-old husky mix, Misha—and the two of them love playing together.
Until recently, Fig seemed like a perfectly healthy, happy kitten. But a few weeks ago, I noticed him starting to limp and move in a way that didn’t seem right. What followed was a stressful week of vet visits, X-rays, an emergency hospital trip, and finally a consultation with an orthopedic surgeon.
That’s when we received the diagnosis: Fig has stage 3 luxating patellas in both knees.
This means both of his kneecaps slip out of place, making walking, jumping, and playing painful and unstable for him. Despite this, Fig continues to be the most gentle and loving little kitten. Even during exams and tests, the vets and technicians always comment on how incredibly sweet he is.
Because Fig is still growing, his surgeon recommends waiting until he’s a bit older before performing the corrective surgery he’ll need. Until then, we’re doing everything possible to manage his pain and keep him comfortable so he can still enjoy being a kitten.
Unfortunately, getting Fig the care he needs is expensive. Between emergency visits, imaging, specialist consultations, medications, and the surgery he will need once he finishes growing, the costs add up quickly.
This surgery will give Fig the chance to live a normal, active life—to run, jump, and play without pain.
Fig is still just a baby, and he deserves the chance to grow up healthy and happy. If you’re able to donate, share his story, or even just send good wishes, it truly means so much. Every bit of support helps give Fig the future he deserves.
Thank you for helping this sweet little guy get back on his paws.
❤️
