When Sophia was 20 weeks pregnant, doctors discovered that Eliana had a rare genetic heart condition called heterotaxy, which affects how the organs in the chest and abdomen develop. Because of this condition, Eliana needed heart surgery immediately after she was born.

Instead of bringing their newborn home, Sophia and Dom are spending their days at the hospital beside their tiny daughter as she fights to recover. Eliana is incredibly strong, but doctors expect she will need multiple surgeries and ongoing care as she grows. Right now, her parents don’t know how long she will need to remain in the hospital.

Every day Sophia and Dom make the 45-minute drive to the hospital so they can sit beside Eliana, hold her hand, and be there for every step of her healing. At home, they are also caring for their two-year-old daughter, Amaiya, who is missing her baby sister.

Between medical bills, travel back and forth to the hospital, gas, meals, and time away from work, the financial strain is quickly growing.
