Meet the Schofield family:
Jalee (or "Ms. Jalee" as her students so affectionately call her) is a teacher for 1st-3rd graders. She is passionate about teaching and loves her students fiercely. Her husband is an amazing dad and currently works for UPS. They have three gorgeous children; Sloane, who just turned 8, Sawyer, who is 6, and Dax who is about to turn 2.
Their story:
About two months ago, they noticed Dax started to run kind of funny. They got worried, thinking maybe he hurt himself somehow but hoped it would get better on its own. It didn't improve, and after a while he started to limp on his right leg and wasn't running anymore. He started taking longer to stand up and needed help to get around. On Easter they noticed he was beginning to use furniture to help himself around. The following Monday he was unable to stand on his own or even take a step. That morning, Ms. Jalee went to school and prepared to teach, thinking she could run Dax to an urgent care to see if it was a broken bone or something. After doing some blood work, results came back some red flags that indicated Lukemia and landed them in the ER for the next 6 days where Dax received many treatments, including two chemo treatments, a spinal tap, a blood transfusion and a bone marrow biopsy. He also had surgery to put a port in his chest for future treatments.
So what now?
Baby Dax has been diagnosed with B Cell Acute Lymphocytic Lukemia. For the next 8 months, Dax will have to endure weekly chemo treatments at Primary Children's as well as more bone marrow biopsies and blood transfusions. The treatment plan will take place for the next 2 1/2 years in several phases. The first phase is the hardest since Dax must take medication that makes him hungry and grumpy and not sleep well, and sometimes it makes him vomit. Additionally, Dax is still unable to walk as the medication affects his muscles and the cancer affects his bones.
How can YOU help?
The Schofield family would never ask for help on their own, so I am asking on their behalf. I know these bills will pile up quickly with all of Dax appointments. Please consider donating even a dollar. Every little bit helps and I know they will be eternally grateful. If you prefer not to donate through GoFundMe (since they do take a small portion) or if it's more convenient for you, you can also Venmo Ms. Jalee directly @Jalee-Schofield.
