We are delighted to introduce Brooklyn Storm Powell, our little warrior. Her arrival into this world has been eventful, to say the least, but we are optimistic that her health will improve. At three hours old, Brooklyn had to have a balloon inserted through a catheter to enlarge her PFO to allow oxygenated and non-oxygenated blood to mix. Subsequently, at one week old, she underwent open-heart surgery to correct her D-transposition of the greater arteries and a large hole in the septum of her heart. The surgery was successful, but she has a small leak from the edge of the patch that should correct itself. Unfortunately, Brooklyn had to undergo another surgery a day later, before her lungs were getting too much blood; they had to enlarge her pulmonary valve with a stent. While she is not out of the woods yet, we have faith that the doctors, nurses, and God will guide her on the path to recovery. Brooklyn is our little fighter.
