Callie & Scott were so excited to ‘meet’ their baby on ultrasound; imagine their shock when they met two! They were told they were having twins, due in February 2021; what a blessing! In January they were advised to deliver in Las Vegas due to a probable cardiovascular problem being detected in one baby and to be in Las Vegas two weeks before scheduled date. Callie arrived in Las Vegas January 18th. February 4th, the most amazing day ever, Gunner and Conner were born. They were whisked off to the NICU, Dad at their sides. The next few weeks were full of shock and awe, bringing to them simultaneously the most amazingly wonderful and the most difficult, saddest and hardest times of their lives.
Healthy baby Gunner was discharged to them after two weeks in the NICU and is doing amazing.
Baby Conner, at 3 & 1/2 weeks, is in intensive care, in stable but critical condition. He has had two open heart surgeries (one emergent) and is on a ventilator. But he is a little fighter - he wakes up, tracks to their voices, holds their fingers, kicks his little legs and tries to pull tubes out (he has a lot of those at the moment)! He loves it when Mommy and Daddy visit and read to him. He has several issues facing him; the good news is each is surgically treatable. However the combination is a challenge and treatment will be a long road. This long road will require Callie & Gunner holding down the fort in Las Vegas to be with Conner for the foreseeable future. Scott was able to be in Las Vegas with them for 3 weeks. Now he and older daughter Bailey are now holding down the home fort, in Reno, traveling back & forth to be together. The covid situation has not made options such as Ronald McDonald house available to them.
The emotional toll on the family is incredible, however the strength and faith Callie and Scott have is even more incredible. Faith in the Lord, in Conner, in the medical teams, in their family, in friends and in each other. There is no doubt the prayers of all have had been pivotal in their world. Please keep the prayers coming, lifting little Conner in faith and healing! Now it would be wonderful if we could help reduce the financial burden of them having to maintain two households, traveling between Reno and Las Vegas and mounting hospital bills. It truly takes a village.
