Help Baby Bodhi in his Fight
4/16/2021 Update
Bodhi is out of surgery and in recovery with his parents by his side.
Unfortunately, when the Doctors went in to operate they determined that Biliary Atresia is not the cause of Bodhi’s troubles, and we are left with more questions than answers. All signs are pointing to something much more rare. Bodhi will be transported to Orlando, where we are hopeful a specialist there can determine, and correct whatever it may be that is causing him to suffer. This is very time sensitive, and the Team of Doctors there will need to act quick to figure out how to treat Bodhi.
We will try to update you all with new information as we receive it. We ask for your continued prayers, and positivity during this troubling time.
************************************************
Bodhi Robert Belk was born on February 21st, 2021 partially deaf and with a hard and soft cleft palette. Since his birth,
Bodhi has gained just under 2lbs, and has required almost daily doctors and
hospital visits to treat his multiple
ailments.
As if this wasn’t enough, a few short
weeks after his arrival he became ill.
He was unable to hold down formula, his body temperature dropped rapidly,
and Kelly and Earl noticed he had
become jaundice.
After a series of invasive tests, on April
12th he was diagnosed with
Biliary Atresia, a rare disease of the liver and bile ducts that affects only infants.
The ducts become inflamed and blocked, causing the bile to remain in the liver
where it starts to destroy liver cells
rapidly, and causes cirrosis, or scaring of the liver, and eventually liver failure.
Unfortunately, there is not a cure for
Biliary Atresia. The only treatment is a
surgical procedure, known as
Kasai procedure, in which the blocked
bile ducts outside Bodhi’s liver will be
replaced with to a loop of his intestine to re-establish bile flow from his liver ducts into his intestine.
The highest rate of success with the
Kasai Surgery is when the procedure is
done within the first 8 weeks of life.
Bodhi is scheduled for surgery on
April 16th. He has a team of Doctors
around him determined to do everything they can to make sure the surgery is a
success. Often times a liver transplant is still required by the age of two in order
for children with this rare disorder to
survive.
All money raised will go towards
deferring the cost of the mounting
medical bills, and living expenses for
the family so that they may continue to
be at the side of Bodhi as he continues
his fight.
Words can not express our gratitude for all of you in this time. Every dollar,
prayer, and thought of well being will be
felt wholeheartedly by Bodhi and his
family.
