On Memorial weekend, my best friend and her family were getting ready for a fun filled weekend, when tragedy struck. Her toddler opened up the baby gate to the bedroom where the iron was still hot, and baby Aurora (18 months) followed her brother into the room. Unfortunately, Aurora reached for the iron, burning her hand, wrist and forearm.
They rushed her to the ER, and the staff advised that she needed to go immediately to the burn unit at Shriners Hospital for Children, so she could be seen by a specialist. The specialist advised that Aurora had sustained 3rd degree burns and would require skin grafting.
As we all know, burns are incredibly painful with an extensive recovery. They require constant dressing changes, the burn site needs to stay lubricated, and she will require lots of physical therapy to ensure she maintains mobility in her arm and to help prevent skin contracture. Caring for burn injuries is incredibly challenging, even as an adult, and it's just heartbreaking to see my sweet God daughter have to go through this traumatic event at such a young age.
Aurora's surgery went well on Tuesday, but she has a long road to recovery. Over the last week her parents have been taking turns staying at the hospital with her, while the other parent stays home with the other three children. The doctors advised that one of them will need to be home with her for a least a month after she is discharged, to help with her recovery, which means more time away from work.
I am creating this Go Fund Me account in hopes to help baby Aurora and her family during this very stressful time. If you have the means to contribute, no matter how small of an amount, it would mean the world to them, and to me.
Thank you so much for your help and God bless! Please keep baby Aurora and her family in your prayers!
